    Alzheimer's Caregivers Support Group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm in the Library. 



    2ND WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH @ 6:30PM // PALMS LIBRARY // 2ND FLOOR - This Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group provides emotional and educational support for caregivers. A place to exchange practical information on caregiving problems, and possible solutions, talk through challenges and ways of coping, share feelings, needs and concerns while building a mutual support system.     A ministry where Palms receives donated bikes, refurbishes them and works with our mission partners who, in turn, give the bikes to homeless and low income people who need reliable transportation. We are in need of people to help deliver refurbished bikes! To serve, contact Jim Simmons.



    Mission House Meals - Prepare fresh food at Beaches Mission House 10am-1pm on the third Saturday of month. Contact Carol Barbour.

    Health Ministry - A ministry comprised of health professionals who seek to meet the health care needs of the congregation through education, health offerings such as monthly blood pressures, health related literature and availability in answering health related issues affecting Palms disciples. Contact Linda Scaz.

    Loaves and Fishes - Provide transportation for disciples to doctor appointments, etc.; help with minor needs of disciples (i.e. changing light bulbs, etc.); help disciples move or just move around. Sign up on CCB or contact Karen Bowden.

    Congregational Care Callers – Make phone call to disciples who have not been in worship for a while, check in on them and offer the care of the congregation (several times a year). Contact Sandi Belt.

    Prayer Links - Prayer Chain Ministry praying daily for Palms disciples. Contact Barbara Johnson.

    Food for the Soul - Love to cook? Want to share your time and talents? Cook and deliver meals to Palms disciples coming home from the hospital. Contact Laura Kusumoto.

    Love Callers – Visit 1-2 homebound Palms disciples monthly and attend a monthly meeting to report on your visits. Contact Pastor Laurie

    Shepherds – Walk alongside a group of Palms disciples to help them remain connected and engaged. Contact Melodee Dixon.

    Preparation for Worship – Behind the scenes opportunities including tidying up the pews (weekly), preparing communion elements (monthly), Shalom Sabbath worship leadership (weekly), and special worship planning. Contact Doreen Boyd.

    Ushers and Greeters – Help during worship with on-the-job training, no experience necessary. Contact Doreen Boyd at the church.

    Ministry Partner Liaisons – Serve as a Palms liaison with one of our local mission partners. Includes meeting with a mission partner representative, listening for celebrations, needs, and bringing those back to our Outreach Ministry. Contact FloAnne O’Brien

    Meals on Wheels – Deliver meals to homebound seniors in the beaches community. Contact Sallie Gipson

    Access Ministry Task Force - Small group of Palms disciples studying issues and answers to the problems of access to services and jobs at the Beaches. Contact Elaine and Rick Mann.

    Front Desk Volunteer Team - Share your smile and voice at Palms! Volunteers are needed to cover the front desk reception area during the week. Contact Doreen Boyd 246-0594 x 229 if you’d like to share your time and talent.                                                                                                    

    Flower Ministry – Volunteers arrange and deliver flower arrangements on Monday mornings made from the flowers that graced the sanctuary during Sunday services. Contact Jill Whitaker.

  5. FINE ARTS CONCERT // Prayer Songs: A Cycle of Music Exploring

    SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18 @ 7:30PM - Prayer Songs: A Cycle of Music Exploring with CJ Dates. Music is a unique form of prayer. More than just speech and silence, music can combine sound, language and emotion into a cohesive conversation with God. Join Columbia Seminary student and Palms’ former Director of Connection CJ Dates for an evening exploring the intersection between prayer and music through song. All Fine Arts Series concerts are free and open to all. Nursery provided. Bring a friend or neighbor.



    A meditation in the Christian tradition of contemplative silent prayer is held Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. in Palms Library. The silent meditation lasts 25 minutes. For anyone interested in or already practicing meditation. Materials on meditating in the John Main tradition are available in the Peace Corner area.     Stephen Ministry, a one-to-one Christian caring ministry for those who are lonely, grieving, ill, need long term care, or suffering other stresses in life, is a vital part of our congregation's mission. Next Sunday, February 19, we will commission five new Stephen Ministers. Dean DeWall, Sally Nielsen, Gayle Gallagher, Karen Bowden and Sally Trefry have answered a special call to use their gifts to follow Jesus' caring footsteps. As we commission these new Stephen Ministers next Sunday, let us celebrate the completion of their 50 hours of training for this ministry and thank God for their generous response to His calling, keeping the success of their Ministry always in our prayers. Please join us in celebrating these Palms disciples next Sunday in Patten Hall, following both services.

    What is your source of wisdom?  What do you use as your source, your ground for decision making, your guiding principle?  Come share your experience of seeking wisdom with others over a glass of wine as we focus on a wisdom quote from a variety of sources and share in open, honest, spiritual conversation. The Wine Bar is located at 320 1st St N #1, Jacksonville Beach. All are welcome.

  12. RETIRED ADULT WRITING WORKSHOP Thursday, February 16 // 2PM


     "Who better to recount your story than yourself?"- Sarah White, writing coach. Join Rev. Lloyd Alamsha and Sally Nielsen in Patten Hall on Thursday, February 16 at 2pm to explore the process of writing your own obituary. All retired adults are welcome to attend. 




    Join us as we welcome Rev. Dr. Leanne Van Dyk, President and Professor of Theology at Columbia Theological Seminary as our Visiting Theologian on March 4-5.  

    Previous to her appointment at Columbia Seminary, Dr. Van Dyk was the Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan.  She was on the faculty of San Francisco Theological Seminary before that.  She received degrees from Calvin College, Western Michigan University, Calvin Theological Seminary, and Princeton Theological Seminary.
